End of Term 3

... and just like that the term is over!

We have been very busy getting ready for the school production. It was so cool seeing everyone in costume at the dress rehearsal this week. We can't wait until the 14 October!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

What can we make with these blocks?

The answer is all sorts of things.
The blocks are a favourite with many of the Room 14 creative kids.
Recently we have made a watermelon, ship with a propeller, submarine and creatures from Minecraft.
Even though we packed up most of the class for the holidays we had to keep the things we were making out of unifix cubes so we can finish them next term.
What will these be when they are finished?

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori and Production, Veges and Athletics!

We listened to some exciting Maori stories this week. We decided to tell the stories by acting them out. We chose our groups, worked out our characters and planned our drama all by ourselves. It was great fun putting the plays on for the class. Some amazing acting and funny interpretations of the stories had us all mesmerised.

Here are some scenes from Rata and the Totara Tree.

We had a vegetable day on Thursday. We had a vegetable quiz on a favourite app - Kahoot. We had to work out which vege was which by listening to the clues and then put the answer in Kahoot on the ipad.

We also made vegetable soup. Everyone was brave enough to have a try of the soup and some of us loved it so much we had several helpings and took the recipe home to share with our whānau.

...and even though we have been so busy with our learning and production practices, we have also been practising our athletics skills for athletics day next term. Whew!!

Week 8 = First full rehearsal of A Thief in Time - the legend of forever!

Production

Yippee! We have seen the whole show at our first full rehearsal.

We have been so busy learning our dance and we couldn't wait to see how it fits into A Thief in Time. Now we know.... but we aren't sharing any photos - we don't want to give anything away before the big production.

Maths

We have been learning about geometric shapes. On Friday we tried to make some of these shapes using an online app. It was not as easy as it looks. We recorded what we did and added it to our Seesaw journal.
We had 2 challenge levels:-
Can you make:
1. Square, triangle and rectangle.
2. Diamond, star and parallelogram

Writing Focus: Jupiter

We have been learning about space this term. This week was J week in Room Tekau mā whā.
We listened to a song and watched an informational video to learn lots of facts about Jupiter. Then we were ready to write. Here are the steps to writing in our class.
  • make a picture plan with labels
  • write our story, try to spell new words by saying them slowly and writing down the sounds we can hear - underline words we need help with
  • use a red pen to edit the story - look for capital letters, full stops and check spelling using the work mat or dictionary
  • use a red pen to revise the writing - change some words for more interesting words or rewrite a sentence in a more interesting way
  • share the story with a buddy
  • conference with the teacher to get help with the things we can't fix by ourselves
Here is one example - some of us could write lots and lots of facts about Jupiter!

Peacocks and Purple People Eaters

Have you heard about the purple people eater who came to Earth? We listened to the words of the song and thought about it would look like.

"It was a one eyed, one horned, flying, purple people eater."

It said that it only eats purple people. We earthlings should be totally safe!

We made stand up peacocks with beautiful tails. We learned that the male peacock is the colourful bird. The female is mostly brown with a much smaller tail.
