Beebot Challenge

We made a plan for our Beebot challenge and some of us built our design with the big blocks.  Can we programme our robot to get through the big block track?

We used forward and backward, left and right turn commands to get our robots to the end of the track.
We had to input the commands into the beebot and then test the programme to see if we had made the robot go far enough and turn the right way. Sometimes we had to makes some changes to complete the challenge.

Week 1 Term 4

A very exciting start to our last term.

k week. We learned about the native New Zealand birds that start with the letter k.; kiwi, kea, kakapo and  karearea. We made bird kites and tested them to see how high they could fly.

On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have two cricket coaches come to teach us some catching, batting and fielding skills. It was a lot of fun.

Literacy Meets Science

This week was J week... jelly starts with J.

And, we are also learning about change in science... so we made jelly and watched the jelly crystals change; dissolve and turn into jelly.

Literacy meets Art

Did you know that zebra stripes are a bit like finger prints - they are all different?

Our art topic this term is print making. We made handprint zebras and a zoo for z week. Everyone made their own zebra and chose one other animal to make for our zoo. (We got a bit held up with the covid lockdown but our back wall has now been transformed.)

ART:  We have started making a template for our next print making project. We will make an original print based on our first initial. We have visited Room 16 and heard how they made their prints using a roller and special ink. We can't wait to try for ourselves!

Back to School and Back to Learning

It is so nice to be back to school together after 2 and a bit weeks in Covid lockdown.

We have combined the learning about 2 graphemes (letters) one from the weeks before we went into lockdown.
Take a look at Elmer the Elephant and his wonderfully colourful quilt body. Our challenge was to use 3 colours and colour Elmer without any coloured square next to a square of the same colour. It was not as easy as it sounded.
