A very exciting start to our last term.
k week. We learned about the native New Zealand birds that start with the letter k.; kiwi, kea, kakapo and karearea. We made bird kites and tested them to see how high they could fly.
We have just completed 2 weeks of swimming. We went to the pool every day and made fantastic progress.
During our swimming programme, the children were participating in a levelled group lessons to develop further skills in the water. The aim is to become more relaxed and confident in and around the water.
The activities included
- Entering and exiting the pool safely
- Putting their head in and then under the water
- Blowing bubbles/beginning breathing skills
- Floating on their backs and fronts with a board/noodle and then without a board/noodle
- Kicking on their fronts and backs with a board
- Learning arm strokes
Other skills the children are learning are
- Self-management skills such as looking after their belongings, undressing and dressing
- Walking safely in a group
- Following instructions given by a swimming teacher
